The exhaust repair process — step by step
Full transparency on exactly what happens from the moment you get in touch to the moment we hand back the keys.
- 1
Diagnose the leak
Engine idled, exhaust listened along its length to find the exact leak or split.
- 2
Section identification
We tell you if the whole system needs replacing or just one section — most repairs are section-only.
- 3
Replace
New section fitted with fresh gasket, hangers and clamps.
- 4
Leak test
Restart, listen and smoke-test to confirm zero leaks.
- 5
Emissions check
Where a cat is replaced, we confirm CO/HC levels are inside MOT spec.

Everything included with your exhaust repair
No hidden extras, no vague pricing. Here's exactly what you get, what we bring, what to have ready and what happens afterwards.
- Idle listen-along to pinpoint the leak
- Section identification (rarely does the full system need replacing)
- New back-box, mid-pipe or cat as required
- Fresh gaskets, hangers and clamps
- Smoke and listen re-test to confirm zero leaks
- Emissions check where a cat is replaced
- Universal cat-back replacement stock
- OE-fit rubber hangers and stainless clamps
- Exhaust smoke tester
- 5-gas analyser (for cat replacements)
- Which noise it makes (blowing, rattling, droning) — helps us narrow it down
- Space under the car — a driveway is easier than parallel parking
- Loud droning or blowing under acceleration
- MOT advisory or fail on exhaust noise or emissions
- Rattling from underneath at idle (heat shield or broken hanger)
A blowing exhaust upstream of the cat will trigger emission and lambda faults and can starve the engine of back-pressure. Downstream leaks are usually just noise — but they'll fail an MOT.
- A slight smell of burning for the first drive is normal — new gaskets curing
- If a check-engine light appears after the job, ring us straight back — usually a lambda plug wants seating
Do you weld exhausts or just replace?+
We do both. If it's a small pinhole we'll weld it; if the pipe is corroded through, welding won't hold and a new section is the right call.
